The United States of Constipation

The United States of Constipation

It’s not your imagination – constipation is on the rise

Other people’s constipation is probably not something you think about as much as I do, but you would probably agree that if more people were less constipated, the world would be a happier place.

Unfortunately, the data is not in our favor.  I occasionally receive sales data for national laxative brands* – and it’s not pretty.   Over the last six months, sales of laxatives have grown in sales by over 5% versus last year.  For some anchoring, US population growth was 0.1%

From the latest report, here are the country’s top constipation “growers”:

  • Seattle, WA
  • Charlotte, NC
  • Las Vegas, NV

Sadly, the majority of these growing sales are for products that can feel aggressive and create urgency issues, which makes me think that people do not know about natural solutions that are available – namely prunes, prune juice and, of course, Prunies®!

So, please tell your friends and neighbors (especially the ones that seem particularly unhappy and preoccupied) there is another remedy that is gentle, natural and tastes great!  Or better yet, send them the gift of feeling great with a Prunies® gift card – click here.

P.S. It’s not all doom and gloom.  Check out the top places where laxative sales have dropped:

  • New Orleans, LA
  • Knoxville, TN
  • St. Louis
